Ethnographic analysis on

Puerto rican voices in diaspora

What does "Puerto Rican" mean to those who are separated from the island?  This ethnography aims to dive into the depths of Puerto Rican identity in the United States. Through the examination of 4 variables; family, shared interactions, culture, and place, anthropology student recearcher, Britney Cordero, will investigate the concept of group identification amongst the diasporic Puerto Rican community with the intent of understanding the factors that contribute to strong or weak cultural belonging.  If you are of Puerto Rican heritage, no matter where you are located, WE NEED YOUR VOICE!   Together, we can embrace the rich diversity within the Puerto Rican community and create a more authentic understanding of our identity.  Scroll down for ways to contribute.

About the researcher

Hello! My name is Britney Cordero and I am the founder of HeritageHub and an undergraduate anthropology researcher attending Albright College in Pennsylvania.  In addition to my research on HeritageHub, I virtually volunteer in a Brazilian organization named Soul Bilingue as an English mentor and have about 2 years of experience teaching English as a second language to non-English speakers.  To further pursue language teaching, I am in the process of getting my Level 5 TEFL Certificate and expanding my network internationally through virtual volunteer work.  Previously, I have had the opportunity to conduct ethnographic research on modesty amongst Muslim women and this ethnography on the Puerto Rican diaspora will be my second ethnographic work.  I am of Puerto Rican descent and study anthropology with the goal of moving to Puerto Rico to research Taino culture and explore the African influences that were left behind after colonization.  I speak English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese (work in progress) and am an absolute lover of all things culture!
